Terrible slaughter. God comfort those men who faced sure death at Normandy so that nightmare of a war could be concluded. And yes, I also believe Stalingrad to be the most extreme battle in history. The biggest armor battle in history, the huge tank battle at Kursk, was also very destructive in its own way. Man will never learn, I regret to say... I wan t thus to let everybody know that the information placed here about the battles is greatly inaccurate. The american only lost a bit more than 3,00 in iwo jima. The germans lost no more than a quater of a million men and it was the russian who lost 800,000. I would also argue that there were other bloodier battles (not to say these were not terrible) I have been studying WWII for more than three years now.
