War Profiteer

A pair of women were talking on a bus during World War II about how well their husbands, who are manufacturers of arms and other war supplies, were doing because of the war. One commented, “I wish the war would go on forever.” Another passenger of the bus came over and slapped the speaker saying, “That’s for my son who is fighting in the South Pacific.”
Sometimes there are two slaps, for each military son. This was reported in Time magazine in 1942 and was repeated during the war years.
