This extremely successful 2008 film was based on the celebrated graphic novel by Mark Millar. The original novel was a bit different from the film. A secret fraternity of assassins secretly runs the world and has dedicated their lives to rid the world superheroes. The film disregarded the notion of superheroes and went for a more realistic approach to the story that they felt would help audiences relate to the characters. The basic premise of the film is that a man named Wesley works a typical life. He hates his job, his girlfriend is cheating on him, and he is almost broke. Soon, his life changes completely.
Wesley is told that his father was a member of a secret fraternity of assassins. Wesley is initially doubtful of the validity of this so-called “fraternity.” But after he is almost killed by an unknown gunman, he decides to join and try to avenge the death of his father that he never knew. Enduring torture, and humiliation from every angle, Wesley barely crosses over to become an assassin. Yet, soon things are not as black-and-white as the fraternity would have him see. He discovers a deadly conspiracy that threatens his life and his morals.
