Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge

December 14th, 2008

Tootsie’s is located in Nashville, Tennessee, and because of its close proximity to the Ryman Auditorium, it became the green room to many Grand Ole Opry performers. Tootsie’s was originally purchased by Tootsie Bess in 1960 where it was first named Mom’s. Famous early customers include Willie Nelson, Faron Hall, and Patsy Cline.

Hank Williams Sr. was the name of an early customer whose ghost still roams the lounge on a regular schedule. People have reported seeing his ghost sitting at the bar and ordering a drink. A few years ago someone took a picture and published it in a national magazine. The photo was taken of the front stage and this mist surrounding it seems to represent Williams. Willie Nelson lived in one of the upstairs rooms during the beginning of his career, and he explained noises and sounds that he heard. Williams was described as wearing slacks, a long sleeved white shirt, and cowboy boots. Tootsie herself passed away in 1978, but many believe she still watches over her establishment every day.
