The 1987 film Three Men and a Baby was released on videotape in 1990. Since its release, people began noticing a “ghost” image, apparently of a young boy, in the background of one scene. Stories began circulating that the son of the owners of the New York apartment used for the film committed suicide there and returned as a ghostly appearance that apparently could only be seen on film. Some viewers also claimed to have seen the rifle he used to commit suicide with alongside his spirit. Others believed that the alleged ghost was a young relative of the director who was promised a role in the movie.

The producers spoke out and said that the “New York Apartment” was actually a soundstage in Toronto and that the ghost was actually an out-of-focus view of a cutout of Ted Danson, who is a actor in the movie. Rumors then circulated that the film’s distributors had started the stories to promote video rentals and the sequel Three Men and A Little Lady (1990).
