The Tallapoosa Jail
The Tallapoosa jail is located in Tallapoosa, Georgia, and is currently sitting underneath the chief of police’s office. Since the current department was constructed, the old jail is now nothing more than a storage room. The original jail cell is believed to be built as early as 1880, and it was the scene of death for three inmates and two cops that were shot. In total, the site seems to be haunted by about four ghosts. Two of them are the police officers who were shot, and the other two were killed by an officer.
William Meager was the first officer who was killed at the scene. He never carried a gun because he was so confident in the way he conducted himself as a conversationalist. The man who killed him went by the name of “Boss” Cason, who shot him in the chest. Henry Pope was the name of the second officer who was killed at the old jail. He was working on releasing a prisoner through bond with the prisoner’s family when an argument started. The prisoners Aunt, Mrs. Ledlow pulled out a gun and shot Pope, mortally wounding him.
Pope then pulled out his gun as he was doing, and shot Mrs. Ledlow in the mouth, and as Mr. Ledlow went to get the fun from her, he shot him in the head. They both were killed instantly, and Pope died shortly after as well. People who have visited the spot have claimed to hear unexplained noises from the jail cell, and strange things seem to happen in the chief’s office every so often.
These paranormal activities are a traditional case of cops continuing their unfinished business, and criminals who are to spend the rest of eternity in jail.
