Deep in the Rocky Mountains about 70 miles from Denver, Colorado stands a 180 room building called the Stanley Hotel. It is located in Estes, Colorado and one of the most haunted hotels in the country. Stephen King stayed here once, and this would inspire him to write his book The Shining. It was built in 1909, and one of the first all electric hotels in the country at the time.

Many famous guests have stayed there including Teddy Roosevelt, Molly Brown, and the emperor of Japan. Stephen King was walking the halls during his stay in 1973, and he was not able to find his room for a long time. This is where his idea for his 3rd novel came from. Daily ghost tours are given, and the ground floor is believed to be haunted by the original Stanley who owned the hotel.

One of the most haunted areas in the hotel is the 4th floor. Guests staying there often hearing children playing and running up and down the hallways. Resembles to The Shining right? There is also a 100 foot long subterranean corridor underneath the building. One time a man reported being hit in the face by a ghost as he was walking down there. Many employees also have encounters with the ghosts at the hotel.

These workers often report being pushed by shadowy figures. A lot of times, these people are here when absolutely no one else is, giving it an even creepier feeling. These workers even report hearing laughter and screams after hours when its just them.
