The St. James Hotel

December 24th, 2008

The St. James Hotel is located in Cimarron, New Mexico and originally opened in 1872 as a saloon. It would eventually expand into a hotel in 1880. It was built by Frenchman Henry Lambert. The hotel served as a popular spot for people who were traveling between Denver and Albuquerque. The people they attracted included Buffalo Bill, Annie Oakley, Jesse James, and Wyatt Earp. At least 26 people were killed in the hotel, mostly in the gambling hall or saloon. In 1901, work done on the roof revealed over 400 bullet holes that were discovered in the ceiling.

There are a few well-known ghosts that haunt the hotel. The first floor is haunted by the spirit known as the Little Imp. The ghost breaks glass and moves objects around. His motives seem to be causing a ruckus and attention to himself. Room number 18 holds a famous ghost that is dangerously rough to its inhabitants. This ghost has been known to throw people staying there across the entire room. Needless to say, the hotel keeps this room locked and will not allow anymore guests to stay there under any circumstances. Room 17 is the home to the ghost of Mary whom was the wife of Henry Lambert. The room is full of cold spots and the smell of her perfume that she once wore.
