The Riddler
The Riddler is one of Batman’s most infamous enemies. This evil trickster dedicates almost all of his time to staying one step ahead of Batman. He does this by leaving clues and riddles in the aftermath of his crimes, which forces Batman to devote much time figuring out the mystery while the Riddler can go out and create even more chaos in Gotham City. The Riddler’s real name is Edward Nigma. The name is a pun of the word “enigma”, meaning a mystery.
His attire usually includes a neat green suit with an overcoat which has a question mark on its back. He also wears a purple eye mask so as to look more sinister, and carries a cane in the shape of a question mark. In short, he is Batman’s most interesting villain. The character has been interpreted usually as a humorous comic-relief villain rather than a vicious psychopath like he is in the comics. It has been rumored that the next Batman film, to be released in 2011, will have Johnny Depp as the role of the Riddler.
