The Olde Angel Inn
The Olde Angel Inn is located in Niagra-On-The-Lake, Ontario. Captain Colin Swayze of the British Army was staying at the inn during the War of 1812. In 1813, the United States forces captured Fort George, and the British soldiers all retreated, that is, all except Captain Swayze. The Captain had fallen in love with the innkeeper’s daughter, and he hid in the basement, but the American soldiers found and killed him. The inn was burned down by the Americans, but rebuilt in 1815 by John Ross. The ghost stories have known to begun around 1820. The Ling family has owned the inn since 1992, and according to them the ghostly legend lives on. There have been several reports of visitors coming into contact with the ghost of Captain Swayze, who has been known to come out of the floor while guests are sleeping and stare at them at eye level before vanishing. The footsteps of the Captain are also heard resonating through the inn at random times.
