The Obligatory Wait

Many college students and even a few professors believe that there is a campus regulation that specifies how long a class must wait for a late instructor to arrive in the classroom. From five minutes for a graduate student to twenty for a full professor, how long a class allegedly must wait varies from class to class. So far, nobody has been able to locate a copy of this particular rule but it is true that some instructors announce their personal policies regarding lateness in their syllabus. This legend does spread to students by other students who claim to prove this rule exists by citing either a friend of a friend or other instances when one of their classes decided to wait so-many minutes for a later professor to arrive.
