Some of the most haunted places in the world are at the sites of bloody battles during war. In Cumberland, Rhode Island there was one such conflict that would later be called the King Phillip War. This war was fought throughout the woods of Southern New England by the whites and Native Americans. There aren’t many sites that are open to the public to show people about what happened once upon a time on these hallowed grounds.

The most haunted area in which this war was fought is the Nine Men’s Misery Memorial. The site has a monument that marks the spot where the Indians killed eight Rhode Island militiamen and their captain. They killed these men by skinning them alive, which in turn caused a slow and painful death for these men. They were then be-headed, with their detached heads placed on stakes. Paranormal activity has been prevalent in this area for many years. The temperature has been known to drop in an unusual fashion and people have also heard the sobbing of men in the distance.

Photos taken from visitors display energy streaks and orbs in them as well. The ghost of a little girl is the most famous and disturbing presence in this area. This little girl dressed in 17th century clothing is seen running through the woods panting, as if trying to flee the Indians that were possibly chasing her. She is seen running towards people and then vanishes abruptly with the heavy sound of footsteps.
