The Montauk Monster

March 27th, 2009

The Montauk Monster was a creature that washed ashore on one of the beaches in Montauk, New York. The creature was discovered in July of 2008, and no one has been able to identify what this creature was. The East Hampton Natural Resources director viewed the creature simply as a raccoon with its upper jaw missing. This was first released to the public in an article on July 23rd in the local newspaper The Independent. The remains mysteriously disappeared, allegedly by a woman who took it away from the site to bury it. Loren Coleman is a crypt zoologist who first came up with the name “The Montauk Monster” on July 29th, 2008.

Conspiracy theorists believe that this creature could be a science experiment from the government animal testing facility, which is not too far from the location it was found. The name of the facility is the Plum Island Animal Disease Center. Also, the fact that the body had been in the water for a while it made it harder to identify what it was. Some speculate that it appears to be a water rat, which is an Australian rodent, and others think it is a capybara, even though they don’t have tails. A representative from the Plum Island Animal Disease Center claimed on the History Channel that it was a mutilated boxer dog. Take a look and decide for yourself!
