Stephen King’s The Mist had been planned to be adapted into a film by Frank Darabont for many years. After completing The Shawshank Redemption, Darabont wanted to begin filming this science-fiction thriller. After many years of doubt, the film was finally released in 2007. The film told the story of a film artist and his son who become trapped in a supermarket while unknown creatures from a mysterious mist terrorize the outside world. The film describes the functions of humans caught in extraordinary circumstances. It addresses the idea of whether or not we can all come together in a time of crisis.
Following a thunderstorm, David Drayton and his family notice a mysterious mist moving towards their lake house. David and his son go to a grocery store to get supplies since the power in the town has gone out. While there, air raid sirens go off and everyone runs as fast as they can to get clear of the mist which is making its way towards the supermarket. It is revealed that their is something dangerous in the mist. The patrons create a fortification inside the store, since one of the workers was killed by a creature of unknown origin. Horrific insect-like beings try time and time again to break into the store. A few people are killed, and a devout christian woman tells the people that this is God’s wrath upon the world as is said in the Book of Revelation. It is later revealed that the military at a nearby base conducted experiments and created a port-hole to another dimension which unleashed these creatures upon the earth.
