The Matrix

It has been called one of the greatest action films of all time. It captured the imagination of millions with its thought-provoking story and groundbreaking use of visual effects. Keanu Reeves became on instant celebrity and the Wachowski brothers were considered one of the pioneers in the next generation of filmmakers. The Wachowski brothers used philosophical ideas about reality, largely borrowed from the writings of Philip K. Dick, and put them into a dramatic story containing loads of fast-paced action. The film proved to be a huge hit and spawned a franchise including animated films, two sequels, and video games.
The film tells the story of a computer hacker named Neo. He lives an ordinary life until one day when black-suited men appear at his office and apprehend him and shoot a bug into his stomach. A pair of leather-wearing females take him and destroy the bug. They introduce him to a man named Morpheus. Morpheus informs Neo that this world is known as the Matrix, a computer program run by machines who control the earth many years in the future. Morpheus trains Neo to forget the physical laws of the Matrix and become in tune with martial arts. Neo becomes informed that he is the only One who can destroy the machines.
