Rarely in Hollywood do sequels do such good business as this film did. After the release of the first film of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, there was so much apprehension for the next installment. Could Peter Jackson outdo his first film? Would the story be just as good? Would there be big battle scenes? The answer to all these questions is yes! This is the best sequel of any fantasy film I have ever seen. The story picks up almost seconds after the ending of the first film. The fellowship is broken. Sam and Frodo travel to Mordor passing through unimaginable dangers. The other characters are forced to hold off the forces of the Wizard Saruman as he unleashes his army of evil upon the people of Middle-Earth.

The real draw to this film, is the Battle of Helm’s Deep. This battle has to much one of the most epic ever seen on screen since the golden age of Hollywood. It is no wonder that this film won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. But aside from the huge battle scenes, at the heart of this filmĀ are the themes of bravery, friendship, and perseverance. We aspire to be like these characters. We wonder what we would do in these situations. The events of the film can be paralleled to our own world. We are faced with impossible odds, and it is only through friendship and courage that we can overcome these difficulties.
