The Island

The Island was the summer blockbuster of 2005. What was unusual about this Michael Bay action movie was that it required a lot of thought. It wasn’t your typical summer movie with fast chase scenes and explosions. It was a statement on cloning, and what is real. For example in this film the people believe they are living in a utopia and will one day go to a beautiful place known as the island. Later it is revealed that when someone is selected to go the island they are killed. In reality all these people are clones their counterparts in the real world.
Basically, the person on the outside may have a heart problem, so in order to make sure they will survive with another heart, they pay for a clone to be made of themselves. Sound intellectual? From the onset of the film, one can notice that the story was obviously inspired by novels such as 1984, Logan’s Run, and Fahrenheit 451. The film did not do as well as expected at the box-office, but still has a following among science-fiction fans.
