The Gravesite of James Dean
James Dean is buried in Park Cemetery in East Fairmount, Indiana. James Dean was incredibly famous and popular, and it is believed that the restlessness in his life continued over after his life. He was born in Marion, Indiana on February 8th, 1931. By the age of five his family moved out to L.A. but returned back to Indiana after the death of his mother. He was raised on a farm in Fairmount by his aunt and uncle that lived there. Upon graduation of high school, he began to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.
First, he went to school at UCLA and joined Marlon Brando and Juliet Harris at the famous Actors Studio in New York. After his success on Broadway, Hollywood took notice and he received his first two major movies in succession: East of Eden and Rebel Without a Cause. With the money he made, he was able to pursue his other passion which was fast race cars. From there he bought a Porsche and began to participate in road races across Southern California.
On September 30th, 1955 he was killed in a freak highway accident while driving a Porsche Spyder. Some people believe that the car is cursed and has become famous unto itself. After his death, he became a legend, even though he had only starred in three movies at the ripe age of 24. He became a model and symbol for the American youth and widely known as a rebel. Many people visit his grave year-round and claim to feel the strong presence of his spirit. One man reported leaving a cigarette at the grave site and as he turned around he smelt it burning, then as he looked back the cigarette had disappeared.
