The Ghosts of the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse

September 12th, 2008

On the central coast of Yaquina Bay lies an old inactive lighthouse built in 1871. The lighthouse was only operational for three years before it was replaced by a new and better positioned lighthouse. After that, it served as a Cost Guard training station but that didn’t last too long. So for almost the entire history of the lighthouse, it hasn’t been in much use except for the ghosts who roam its area. The most famous ghost story of the lighthouse is the ghost of Muriel Trevenard.

Muriel was the teenage daughter of a sea captain who had left her near the lighthouse in the town of Newport because she wasn’t taking well to his voyage. He had to sail further down the coast so he figured she wouldn’t be sick anymore on land. The girl and her friends went to the old lighthouse to explore and as they were walking back, Muriel realized that she had forgotten her scarf. She went back to the lighthouse to get it and when she didn’t return right away her friends went back to look for her. When they got there, they heard a scream and saw blood on the floor. She was never seen again, and mysteriously her father had disappeared on his voyage as well. The ghosts of a man and girl have been reported at the lighthouse, along with flickering lights.

The video version of what happened to Muriel Trevenard is differant, in the video only Muriel goes into the home not the lighthouse itself on her own. She was not wearing a scarf plus where was no screams or blood on the floor.
