The Ghosts of “Spy House”
In Port Monmouth, New Jersey is one of the most beautiful surviving example of Colonial architecture in America. “Spy House”, is the name of this 1696 establishment by a planter and ship owner Daniel Seabrook. The house itself also has a beautiful view overlooking Sandy Hook Bay. The story of the house goes all the way back to the Revolutionary War when George Washington had enlisted a spy for the Union in the area to watch for British ships coming into the bay. That was a very long time ago.
The British knew this and figured the house is most likely the spot for this because it was ideal for spying and members of the household supported the Revolution. The British burned down the house and never killed the sky. The house was rebuilt and called Spy House, however since the mid 1900s visitors at the historic house have reported very strange and paranormal events. The most common is seeing a old woman wearing Revolutionary time period style clothing and going into a room and tucking someone into bed. Also, people have witnessed the sewing machine working on its own without anyone there. Footsteps may be heard as well along with cold spots and uneasy feelings of being watched. Perhaps the Seabrook family was taken from their house far too soon.
