The Ghost of the Red Mansion

March 22nd, 2009

There is a beautiful red mansion that sits next to Faulkner House Book’s on Pirate’s Alley, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The upper floors of this mansion display beautifully rare views of St. Anthony’s Garden. During one of the epidemics that went raging through New Orleans in the 1850s, a little girl of about eight years-old became ill. She was wrapped in blankets and propped up on a chaise in front of a third-floor window so she could watch her friends play outside, longing to have the chance to go out and play with them again in the garden.mShe became weaker and weaker, until finally she died.

However, even after her death, the little girl still sits and waits by the window. From Pere Antoine Alley, many people have reported seeing the girls face pressed up against the glass of the window. Her white gown and long brown hair can also be seen. The ghost does not move, but some people have reported also seeing the ghost in the fourth floor window as well. Very little is known about the life of this poor girl, but we do know that she wasn’t the only child in New Orleans to suffer from infectious diseases and malnutrition that are all now easily curable. The spirit of this child was so strong that even after death, it still hasn’t given up her dream.
