The Ghost of Ocean-Born Mary
In 1720, the ship Wolf was on its way from Ireland to America near the coast of Massachusetts coast when it was attacked by pirates. Captain Pedro and his men were about to steal from and murder some of the boats’ inhabitants until they found out Captain Wilson of the Wolf recently had a daughter with his wife.
Captain Pedro had a wife named Mary who was deceased so he told Captain Wilson to name his daughter Mary if he wanted them to leave the ship, hence the nickname she received, “Ocean-Born Mary”. She grew up and married a man named Thomas Wallace and had five children. Captain Pedro had kept track of Mary throughout her life, and when he retired from the pirate-business, he bought a lare piece of land in Henniker, New Hampshire. After her husband died, he invited her to be his house servant. She outlived Pedro and all of her kids, dying at the age of 94.
It is believed that Captain Pedro was murdered by one of his old shipmates who thought he was being cut out of some treasure from the past. The legend of the treasure says that it is buried somewhere in the house. There is another legend that claims he is buried under the hearthstone in the kitchen along with his treasure. No one has ever found it or been too courageous to look for it since its possible that there is a curse on anyone who disturbs the hearthstone. Mary’s ghost has also been reported in the house, looking out the window, on the surrounding hills. One witness reported that Mary helped him protect the garage for an incoming hurricane.

Looks like I’ll be making a road trip out to that house.
