The Ghost of Liberty Hall

September 8th, 2008

One of the most known female ghosts is that of Margaret Varick who haunts Liberty Hall in Frankfort, Kentucky. Liberty Hall is a beautiful Georgian-style mansion that was built in 1796 by Kentucky’s first United States Senator John Brown. Margaret was a relative of the Brown family and in 1817 made the trip from New York to Kentucky to comfort one of her nieces who had recently lost a child. She was 65 at the time, and it proved to be too much for her as she died once arriving to the house.

People who have stayed there have claimed that she is still present there, being helpful to guests by folding blankets or finishing sewing projects overnight. There was also a number of gold bracelets that had been added in the inventory in the room where she died. Also, she is known for closing doors very loud, but someone reported her door closing while she was in the bath when she forget to close it.
