The Fort Garry Hotel
January 22nd, 2009
The Fort Garry Hotel is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The 14-story building was built in 1913, standing today as a national landmark and a symbol of pride. The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway built a fort in 1835 at the site where their east and west lines met. The company built a luxurious hotel right next to it, in an effort to accommodate the upper-class passengers. The hotel has been through a lot in its years, surviving a number of floods and even a fire. The second floor is believed to be haunted, especially room 202. Dark figures are most often seen in the hotel. There has also been the sight of a woman in a ball gown that walks the halls of the hotel.

The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway did not build a fort in 1911. The fort was built in 1835. GTP built the Fort Garry Hotel from 1911-1913 and opened in December 1913.
The fort was built near the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers.
