Survival Signs

January 15th, 2009

Okay, so if you ever had to survive in the wilderness, your first priority is to do whatever you can to survive. What I am going to talk to you about in this article is some signs of help that you can leave in order to show your rescuers where you are:

1) Fire – You have probably seen this one in many films and television shows. Building a fire with lots of smoke can signal any helicopters or rescue boats nearby.

2) Pinecones – Anyone who may be looking for you, will be looking for signs that only humans can possibly make. One of these methods you can use is to place a pinecone in between a split branch at the side of the trail you are taking.

3) Shirt Flag - This is an obvious sign that you can use to let anyone know of your survival. Last two sticks together to form a cross and place a brightly-colored shirt over it. If you make more of these signs, it can lead in the direction that you have taken.

4) Arrows – Large stones in the shape of an arrow indicates your direction of travel. It will also make it visible from the air. It is recommended that you make these arrows often, especially when your trail divides.

It is important that you be creative in survival situations. Anything that you can to signal any rescue helicopters or boats is key. If the sign is large enough, anyone will be able to spot your location and come rescue you.
