Stones River National Battlefield

December 15th, 2008

The Stones River Battlefield is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and is the site of a Civil War battle that took place from December 31st, 1862 to January 2nd, 1863. It is 350 acres of land and contains the Stones River National Cemetery which was established in 1865. There were more than 23,000 estimated casualties over the four day battle. Due to this fact, this site makes it ideal for a haunted place. The Slaughter Pen is a rocky and wooded area of sinkholes that was the spot for many soldier’s deaths. Most of the men that were killed were not found.

There was actually a number of soldiers that died because they were given no medical attention. This is the spot where many visitors report hearing footsteps from behind them and also seeing apparitions of men in Civil War uniforms. Further down the trail, a policeman had a paranormal experience. The cop was camping with some friends when he went go to refill his canteen he saw a man behind some bushes.

He called the man out not knowing who he was, and as the man walked towards him he got scared and pulled out his gun. This is when the man disappeared into the air, without any trace of anything happening.
