Stepp Cemetery

December 18th, 2008

Stepp Cemetery is located in Martinsville, Indiana and has been haunted for many years. The grounds are located far down into Mogran-Monroe State Forest. It was originally a  pioneer cemetery that opened in the early 1800s. In the 1930s, a woman tragically lost her baby son. After he was buried in the cemetery, she would spent much of her time there, watching over her son’s grave singing to him. After she passed away, the hauntings began. Starting in the 1950s, people would report seeing a ghost woman sitting on a bench by a baby’s grave. Rangers have reported hearing crying noises from the wounds. Visitors to the cemetery have also reported a black ghost dog watching over the grave of the kid’s grave almost as if its protecting him.

Black phantom dogs are common in sites of hauntings because there are believed to be the guardians of spirits. Photographs have included a strange red glow at times, and unexplained noises such as footsteps.
