Aside from Star Wars, Star Trek has become one of the most financially-successful and popular science-fiction franchises of all time. The story was created by Gene Roddenberry when his network was looking to create a television-series to counter the popularity of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. The result was the story of humans who have developed faster-than-light speed.
After an apocalyptic event of nuclear war, humans have made contact with aliens. The two worked together and were able to over-come many boundaries of science. A Utopian society was created on earth looking for a way to explore the far reaches of the universe. Together the aliens and humans banded together and formed the United Federation of Planets.
The series was a huge hit. It captivated audiences of all ages with it’s science-fiction adventure and morality tales. Each episode was created with this double strategy. Since the first season in the 1960s, an entire franchise was formed that still has no limits. In 2009, a new Star Trek film will be released which will no doubt bring even more fans into this terrific franchise.
