Ruthin Castle Hotel

March 22nd, 2009

The Ruthin Castle Hotel is located in North Wales, United Kingdom. It was built in 1207 for King Edward I, and much of this original construction is still standing to this day. There is a total of fifty-eight rooms that are now available to guests at the Inn that now took place for the private residence of royalty. There is also a large banquet room where the Medieval Banquets are held at night. The old sections of the castle can still be seen, and the castle grounds still contain their original drowning rooms, whipping rooms, and dungeons. Several ghosts are believed to haunt the castle and its grounds.

The most well-known of these ghosts is the Gray Lady. She has been seen many times walking the battlements at night. She has also been seen outside of the castle and in the banquet hall. She is believed to have been the wife of the second-in-command of the castle at the time around 1282. At this time in its history, the Ruthin Castle was occupied by the armies of Edward I. Her husband was having an affair, so she killed his mistress with an axe. She was executed for the crime, and was unable to be buried in consecrated ground since she was a murderer. Her grave now sits outside the castle walls covered in stones. Many people have reported seeing her apparition dressed in gray from head to toe walking by herself.
