Ridley Scott’s Alien

Ridley Scott has become known as one of the masterminds of the action-drama of cinema. With films such as Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, and Blade Runner, he is no stranger to big-budget movies with complex visual effects. Many people forget that this man’s first film was Alien. This movie became part of the science-fiction explosion in Hollywood that had been started by the Star Wars films.
The film told the story of a group of Astronauts in the near future who have been sent into space to colonize other planets. During their journey, they are turned off course when they discover a large planet. After exploring the surface, one of their crew members is attacked by some kind of alien species. The creature becomes lodged in his stomach and later rips out of his flesh. The creature leaks acid and grows large killing off each member of the crew one by one.
The character of Ridley played by Sigourney Weaver, is the heroin of the group. She became an icon of strong female roles in Hollywood after her performance was well-received. This film was a box office hit and continues to have it’s share of fans to this day. With this great film, a franchise was born, unknown actors became stars and Ridley Scott went on to make many more films.
