Richmond Bridge
Richmond Bridge is located in the town of Richmond in Tasmania, Australia. The town of Richmond is considered to be the most important historic town in the state. The Richmond Bridge is the oldest surviving road bridge in Australia that is still in regular use. Construction began in 1823, and was completed in 1825. Convicts labored under harsh conditions to construct the bridge, making a vital connection between Hobart Town and Port Arthur. There are at least three ghosts associated with this bridge.
The most famous haunting currently dates all the way back to 1832. The spirit is believed to be that of a convict overseer by the name of George Grover, also referred to as Simeon Grover. Grover was well-known for the horrible way he treated the convicts. However, this all came to an end in 1832, when the convicts took their revenge on him. He was beaten and then thrown off the bridge, falling 30 feet down to his watery death. Many people have reported seeing his ghost walking back and forth on the bridge.
There is a phantom black dog that is also seen, commonly referred to as “Grover’s Dog.” This dog only comes out at night, and only to women and children. It seems as though this spirit is one of protection to see that the women and children of the town make it safely across the bridge at night. Once it reaches the other side, it disappears. The third ghost associated with the bridge is a man seen walking across it. He is wearing a straw bowler hat and is carrying a walking cane. Many people believe that this is the spirit of a convict who killed himself due to the workload and horrible working conditions.

I spent some time under this bridge trying to work out how you could die by a fall from it. It doesnt seem that high so I am figuring that if the story of the overseer’s ghost being on there is true, I would say he was dead or unconscious before he hit the water.I am not surprised that an overseer would cop this back then as they were often ex convicts themselves or very cruel people
Thats pretty cool that you’ve been there. I think your view point is certainly valid coming from the aspect of height.
Hi i live not far from richmond and have been on that bridge a million times and have never seen or even felt anything at all ever, so when was the last reported sighting?
