North Rolling Fork River runs parallel to the town of Bradfordsville, Kentucky. According to legend, in the summer of 1965 several kids of the town heard a strange sound coming from the river.
The sound was interpreted as a whip being cast. As the kids went closer to the sound by the river, it got quieter. Therefore from farther away, the sound was at its highest.
This phenomenon has never been explained.
