Motley Crue’s Journey Through Death

March 21st, 2009

Motley Crue has been called one of the best rock bands of the 1980s. They are the true meaning of the words “sex, drugs, and rock and roll.” They lived their musical career as true party animals with bad attitudes and a need for chaos. The band consisted of Vince Niel on lead vocals, Nikki Six on bass, Tommy Lee on drums, and Mick Mars on the guitar. They began their career as a typical glam metal band in the vein of bands such as Twisted Sister and Whitesnake. But soon, they branched out and created their own rebellious type of hard rock. With attitude and ridiculous makeup and clothing, the band made a name for themselves. They started toruing and selling out every venue they went to.

But success came with a dark side for this band, and their party attitude would eventually catch up with them. Bassist Nikki Sixx was a hard drug user. Like the rest of the band, he was a habitual user of cocaine, heroin, and speed. On the night of December 23 1987, Sixx overdosed on heroin. He was declared dead for two whole minutes. One of the paramedics who arrived on the scene was a Motley Crue fan, and was determined to bring Sixx back to life. He put two adrenaline shots into Sixx’s heart. Sixx came back to life and continued on the tour partying as usual. This event was said to have had little impact on his personal life. However, it did inspire the band to write the song “Kickstart my heart.” This song became one of the band’s biggest hits.

After doing coming back to life he went home and did the most heroin he had ever done at one time. He instantly passed out and eventually woke up with a needle in his arm, a huge bruise, and a pool of blood in his hand. When he saw this he knew that he had a problem and eventually went into rehab with the band. So this event actually had an effect on his life. He still party’s after concerts but isn’t a drug user.
