Every since 1977 when Life Savers launched their new product Bubble Yum, the company and its new product have been the subject of many rumors. One of these rumors is that the gum was contaminated with spider eggs. Some even said that it was “spider legs” or that it would cause cancer. In response, Life Savers spent a lot of money on advertising to combat this rumor. These rumors, however, stuck to Life Savers and was the only gum manufacturer to have seen an instance of the “Goliath effect”, so far.
