Mississinewa Battlefield

December 16th, 2008

Mississinewa Battlefield is located seven miles north of Marion, Indiana. On December 18, 1812 the Miami Indian warriors assaulted Lt. Colonel J.B. Campbell and his Dragoons. The intense battle lasted for about one hour, and in that time frame the Dragoons lost over a dozen men, wounded 75 men, and over killed over 100 horses. This battle would go down as one of the most important of the War of 1812. 200 years later, this site is still haunted by the spirits who died in this battle on both sides.

Today, there is an annual re-enactment of the battle on the site, as well as camping sites for the people of Miami and Grant County. During the night, a number of campers have reported seeing and hearing the ghosts of this battle. People have seen unusual smoky fog along the river accompanied with the smell of muzzle loader. Battle sounds and the cries of Native Americans in agony are heard, possibly as they met their fate.
