Mission La Purisima

January 11th, 2009

Mission La Purisima Historic Park is located in Lompoc, California. This mission looks much like it did when it was active. It was originally inhabited by Spanish priests and neophytes of the Chumash natives. These buildings include chapels, living quarters for the padres and soldiers, kitchens, and work rooms. Despite the beauty of the site, there is a dark heaviness that can be felt. 21 Catholic missions were founded by the Catholic Church and the Spanish King with one sole purpose: to increase the strength of their empire.

The population on these missions were treated like slaves. They worked long hours, unable to leave the compound, and were forced to give up their own beliefs for the new ones of the Church. There are many cold spots and strange sounds on the grounds. People have reported singing and flute playing from the chapel. Native chantings are often heard in many areas, as well as sounds of horses running after dark. There are also apparitions that have been reported including the spirits of monks and padres.

This place is pretty creepy. I had two crazy experiences here after hours when we snuck in to scope it out. First time we heard a woman singing in a language we all have never heard. And I grew up and live in san francisco which has almost every nationality possible. The second time we saw a shadowy figure that I called out to because it was solid. It didnt respond just walked into the darkness. When we decided to leave because either way alive or dead we didint think it was friendly, we heard footsteps right behind us until we were off the property. I mean right behind us and we could see hundreds of feet around us and saw no one. Defiantly a creepy place, makes u think twice.

When I was twelve I move to Lompoc from Kentucky. My mother, sister and me went visiting the small town and found ourselves at the mission. I was off by myself as usual, and saw a figure of a soldier like man. He was dressed nice though, like in a knee-knicker out fit and he wore a white wig. My first thought was that there was some sort of play going on in one of the builings but also I could see he was transparent sort of. It didn’t scare me. This was twenty some odd years ago.

I’ve been investigating the mission for the last 3 months, and I’ve managed to catch EVP recordings from there of breathing, laughter, flutes (only once though), men talking, names being given to me, and now they are saying my name… I have pictures of orbs like crazy! Orbs that are shooting across the room like a worm of light… Check out my webpage with all the pictures that I’ve posted – and soon, I hope to be able to post my EVP recordings there too…
