Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker is known as the hero of the Star Wars film series. His story has touched the lives of millions around the globe. George Lucas based much of the character of experiences he had had in his youth. This made the character more believable to audiences since we could relate to him. Luke Skywalker was played by Mark Hammil and the actor has commented numerous times that the role was the best he ever had in his film career.

Luke was born to Padme Amidala along with his sister Leia. His father was Jedi-knight Anakin Skywalker. Anakin had turned to the dark side of the force, and his two children were born in secret. Luke and Leia were separated so that they could not be found by the Emperor. Luke was given to his uncle Owen and aunt Beru. He was raised by them as a moisture farmer on the distant planet of Tatooine. When he bought the droids C-3PO and R2-D2, he was shown a message pertaining to a princess in distress. He met Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and left Tatooine to rescue the princess.

With the help of a Corellian smuggler, Luke rescue the Princess and was able to battle the empire in an epic battle. When Obi-Wan was killed by Darth Vader, Luke decided he would learn the ways of the force. While the rebel forces were battling the Empire on the planet Hoth, Luke went to the Dagobah system to meet Jedi master Yoda. Yoda taught Luke how to use the force and battle evil. Luke dueled with Darth Vader hoping to get vengeance for the death of Obi-Wan. Vader revealed to Luke that he was his father. In utter disbelief, Luke was defeated and had to be rescued by Leia.

Luke once again battled Vader, knowing full well that his father was still somewhere inside. As the emperor tortured Luke with force lightning, Vader realized the evil that was being done and killed the emperor. Wounded from the fight, Vader taked off his mask to reveal himself to Luke. Anakin Skywalker sees his son for the first time and slowly passes away. Luke takes his father’s body and burns it in the Jedi fashion. Luke had brought his father back to the good side of the force.
