During the 1960s, the Lost In Space television series proved to be extremely popular with fans of science-fiction and family audiences alike. In the late 1990s, Hollywood felt it was time to bring the Robinsons back for more adventures. With the new millennium drawing closer, the science-fiction genre was proving to be very popular. So New Line cinema got money together to produce a Lost In Space film. With a cast including William Hurt, Gary Oldman, and Matt Leblanc the film got underway. Using ground-breaking visual effect similar to the Star Wars franchise, the film seemed to be a sure hit at the box-office. However, it proved unpopular with critics and even some audiences felt the film veered to far from the original series.
The film told the story of the Robinson family. With the earth becoming over-populated, it was up to this family to launch into space and search for planets in other galaxies where humans could possibly live. They crash-land on a frozen planet after going through some sort of time-warp. A stowaway named Doctor Smith is responsible for crippling the ship. The Robinsons now have to find a way to get off the planet if they are to still fulfill their mission.
