Legolas is a main character in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He is an immortal elf, a skilled warrior, and a fierce warrior. In the books, he is shown as a wise being whose skill with a bow can determine the fate of a battle. However, in the film version, he is portrayed by Orland Bloom as a typical action movie character. His bow and arrow skill are scene as major action sequences for the entire film trilogy and the character is given more of a role than he had in the book.

Legolas is the son of Thranduil, king of elf-realm of Mirkwood forest. Legolas came to Rivendell and joined the fellowship that was to set out on a quest to destroy the one ring. Legolas uses his skill in sight and hearing to guide the fellowship on the best routes possible. After the fellowship is separated, Legolas follows his friend Aragorn to Rohan where they fight against Saruman the Wizard’s orc armies.

He eventually winds up in Gondor fighting the thousands of orcs unleashed on the city of Minas Tirith. After the events of the book, Legolas leaves middle-Earth on a ship bound for the lands of the west.
