With the war in Europe becoming a losing battle, Hitler had become more psychotic than ever. He had lost all concept of military strategy and still clang to the ideology of the Nazi organization. In was during this time that people in Germany were becoming very skeptical about the leadership in place. One such person was Claus Von Stauffenberg.

Stauffenberg was a German Colonel who had been a combat leader during the war in North Africa. After losing his eye and a few of his fingers in combat, he was assigned to an administrative position in Germany. This became very helpful to his plan. He was a patriot of Germany who felt Hitler was destroying the country. His story has become legend and he in now a hero of German history.

His plan was to organize a plot to kill Hitler and make peace with the Allied forces in order to prevent more destruction and death. With the help of others in the anti-Nazi movement, a plot was created which would get Hitler in the a meeting with Stauffenberg. During the meeting, Stauffenberg left the room saying he had to go in the bathroom. The briefcase he left in the room exploded with the hope that it would kill Hitler.

The explosion killed others but left Hitler merely wounded since a table leg had prevented the blast from taking out the entire room. Stauffenberg assumed the plot had worked and soon started his plan of making peace with the Allies. Only a few hours later, he found out that the plan had been compromised and he was wanted for attempted murder of Hitler.

After many days on the run, he and his comrades were put to death. This story is one of true courage and bravery. It truly shows how not all the Germans were bad. This one man tried to make a difference. even though his plan failed we should give him credit for trying to save his country and get rid of a tyrannical dictator.
