Hummel Park

December 21st, 2008

Hummel Park is located in Omaha, Nebraska and is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the entire city. It has been rumored to be the site of an ancient Native American burial ground and was also the site of a trading post run by Jean Pierre Cabanne in 1823. The park was named after J.B. Hummel who was a well respected superintendent of the Omaha Parks and Recreation Department. The park has an overall strange feel to it with unusual natural terrain.

There is a site on the eastern edge of the park that is referred to as Devil’s Slide. It was given this name because of the many suicides that have taken place there. The trees that line up the road as you enter the park are one of the most mysterious characteristics to the site. Many black men and women were hung from these trees in the early 1900s by racist lynch mobs.

People have reported seeing their ghosts hanging from the trees still and this is often accompanied by screams coming from the area late at night. The Morphing Stairs are another part of the parks mysterious aura. They are a long staircase that are located by the top of the park. The stairs are believed to morph since no one knows the actually number of steps. Every time a person counts the number of steps going up, the number of steps going down changes. There are also spray painted markings in the area that entail inverted swastikas which suggest occult rituals and devil worship have taken place here. Many murders have also taken place in the park because of its dense location.
