After the release of Michael Mann’s 1995 film Heat, a rise in crime occurred throughout different countries. After seeing the infamous bank robbery scene from the film, a few psychopaths were so taken by it that they wanted to turn it into a reality. Such was the case for two men who took part in one of the most infamous shootouts in the history of the state of California.

Two men named Larry Phillips and Emil Matasareanu met at a gym and were very interested in bodybuilding. They soon felt they wanted to make money through the use of crime. They imported ammunition and rifles illegally. They acquired bullet-proof jackets, tons of ammunition, radio scanners, and explosives.

After being arrested for conspiracy to commit robbery, the two men served a short period of time in jail. When they were released, all of their ammunition and rifles were returned to them. On February 28 1997, the two men set their plan in motion. They estimated it would take 8 minutes to rob the bank and escape without the police arriving.

They were spotted by a Los Angeles Police Department patrol car. They went into the bank and fired off many rounds to scare the employees and customers into submission. They acquired around half a million dollars before they tried to flee the area. They were greeted by dozens of police vehicles. The two men opened fire on the officers and a deadly gunfight ensued.

SWAT vehicles arrived along with choppers as the gunfight blazed in the streets. Matasareanu was captured and Phillips was killed from a gunshot wound. This event sparked a blaze of controversy concerning the LAPD. The U.S. government gave new and improved weapons to the police department to prevent any future situations of the like.

i heard that one of the policemen officer whitfield i think was trying to sue the gun manufacturer that the north hollywood bandits used. i disagree with this. my cousin was killed by a drunk driver. should his wife sue budwiser for the accident because that is the beverage that the drunk driver consumed? i dont think so. im sure you have heard the phrase “guns dont kill people do” i feel that is so true. i dont belive in abortion but should i sue the government for allowing that to continue no. abortion is wrong in my opinion like i said people kill people including the unborn. Matasareanu’s family tried to sue the LAPD for letting him bleed to death. is that ethical no. because he was aware of his actions when he walked into that bank! the poor police man that was shot and later tried to sue Vector arms co. also knew of the dangers when he pled the oath as a cop!!!
