His last performance was at the Garrick Theater in Detroit, Michigan on October 24, 1926 in which he performed with a 104 degree fever and acute appendicitis. He died after his performance of peritonitis from a ruptured appendix in Room 401 of Detroit’s Grace Hospital at 1:26 p.m. on Halloween (October 31st) at the age of 52.

Workers at the showcase claim that the room is haunted by a ghost who likes to move objects around, who might possibly be Houdini, checking up on the place, seeing if they are doing everything right. The most common place Houdini’s apparition has been sighted on however in on the grounds of his mansion.
