Halloween Games

Several games are associated with the holiday of Halloween. The most common of these games is bobbing for apples. The game consists of putting apples in a large basin of water and then sticking you’re head into the water and attempt to pull out an apple with you’re teeth. Another form this game could be played is putting a fork between you’re teeth and using this to try to pick up the apple from the water.
Another game often played is hanging up a teracle or syrup coated scones by strings. The people playing must eat these teracles without the use of hands. One game that is played in Ireland consists of a blinded person sitting in front of a table with several saucers on the it. The saucers are shuffled, and the blindfolded person must pick one. The one that is picked will tell what’s in store for the upcoming year for that person.
Some of the saucers are: earth indicating death, a ring indicating marriage, rosary beads indicating taking oaths of the Holy Order, a coin indicating new wealth, and a bean indicating poverty. Unmarried woman were told that if they were to look in a mirror on holiday night, they would be able to see the face of their future spouse. However, if they were not destined to get married the image of a skull would appear in the mirror.
