Good Times Virus

January 3rd, 2009

The “Good Times Virus” must be the most-widespread bogus computer virus warning of all time. Stories of this alleged virus began in the mid-1990s. There were countless warnings send via email and in publications warning that a message that had the subject “Good Times” or a file enclosed with the same name was a virus that would do irreparable harm to one’s computer. Computer experts unanimously labeled it a hoax but it was later proven that computer viruses could be spread through email attachments in March 1999 with the “Melissa” virus.
