Ghosts of Iwo Jima

In February of 1945, thousands of young American and Japanese soldiers went on the battlefield that was the island of Iwo Jima. For the many weeks to follow, many would perish on this deserted island. After the battle was over, thousands lay dead on the black sand. For years, the island became a place for mourning and remembrance. A memorial was built on the dormant volcano of Mount Suribachi where the famous flag-raising took place. The Japanese military has operated a naval base since the end of the war.
Over the years, the island has been visited by hundreds of veterans. The eeriness of this place has said to leave its mark on anyone who travels there. A few men of the Japanese garrison have reported strange occurrences during their tenure of duty there. Supposedly, during the night, when all is quiet, they can her shouts of “corpsman” or “man down.” There have also been sounds of gunfire heard. There is almost no doubt amongst visitors and military personnel alike that this island is haunted.
Any place where thousands of young men lost their lives in vicious fighting would be considered a haunted place indeed.
