In Genesee, Idaho, there is a unique old commercial building in the center of this small farming community. It was built in the 1880s and is one of the oldest buildings in the town. It has served over the years for many different functions such as a general store, post office, cigar store, ice-cream parlor, and a storehouse for construction equipment. However, when Sarah Joyce moved into the house in 1974, that is when the place was first considered to be haunted.

Sarah knew once she moved in that there was something off with the place because she felt an uneasy presence. She then started to hear people walking around, meanwhile there was no one there. Also, she had seen two apparitions of a man and woman walking together both with long black hair. But the most intriguing part of this haunting is one morning Sarah was walking down the steps and an apparition of a rat jumped into her hand and she felt the claws on her skin. Once she screamed it disappeared. Shortly after that, her brother was doing work in the house and lifted up one of the floorboards and found the carcass of a dead rat.
