Freddy’s Nightmare was a late night anthology series that aired from 1988-1990. It was a spin off from the Nightmare on Elm Street horror movie series, but Freddy was the only character from any of the movies. Each show was introduced and closed by Freddy who was played by actor Robert Englund. This was a similar format to the HBO series Tales From the Crypt.

Most of the episodes never dealt with Freddy directly. The only exception was the first ever episode which displays the story of how Freddy was killed. The format of the stories dealt with all random paranormal events of usually teenagers in the fictitious town of Springwood, Ohio. This is the town where all the movies took place in.

Almost every episode took place in two tiers. In other words, there would be a first story dealing with characters revolving around a main character, and a second story that would revolve around a character that wasn’t main in the first story. The show would only run for two seasons and wasn’t successful mostly due to the violent nature of the show. There have not been any DVD releases in the United States, but have been released in the U.K. and Ireland. Even though DVD releases have been scarce, anyone can view episodes from the show on AOL.com TV.
