Franklin Castle
Franklin Castle was built in 1865 and was home to Hannes Tiedemann and his family. The hauntings in the mansion began with the strange deaths of the Tiedemann family. Strange voices have been heard throughout the mansion, along with the sounds of children crying, forms of faces appearing in the woodwork, spinning chandeliers, and cold spots in select locations. These are only some of the bizarre occurrences that occur at the castle; one of the most famous haunted places in the entire state of Ohio. Many people believe that Tiedemann was abusive to his wife and his children.
This belief kept growing following the mysterious deaths of his entire family. The official causes for death were natural, but many people believed and still believe that Tiedemann was the one who killed them all. After he passed away, the mansion was then sold to the German Socialist Party. They conducted all of their meetings in secret and some even speculate that they conducted a mass political assassination. The party would then rent out rooms of the castle to boarders.
One of these boarders was a doctor who performed strange experiments on human specimens. One owner reported finding skeletons of a dozen babies inside a room that was sealed off. Another owner by the name of Sam Muscatello found a skeleton inside of a hidden panel. A young girl is believed to haunt the fourth floor ballroom. She is either the ghost of servant who was killed or the Tiedemann’s niece. There is a large blood stain on the floor of the ballroom that can still be seen to this day. The Romano family owned the castle from 1968 to 1976 and reported that a young ghost girl interacted with their children. There was a fire in 1999 that almost destroyed the home and since then it has been closed and gone under numerous renovations.
