Ford Motor Factory
There is an abandoned Ford Motor Factory on the west side of Singapore, situated between Bukit Batok and Bukit Timah. This Art Deco style factory was the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. During the years of World War II, battles were fought all around the desert compound of the factory. There were high casualty rates for both sides of the conflicts: the Japanese and British armies. Bombs were constantly being dropped, and fires spread all over the region. Amazingly, the Ford Factory was basically the only structure that survived all of the destruction that was in the area.
Japanese soldiers won the bloody battle of Bukit Timah. This was significant because this site was once used as supply storage for the British army. On February 15th, 1942, Lt. General A.E. Percival surrendered to General Yamashita of the Japanese army. The British signed the surrender documents at the factory. Soon thereafter, the factory would serve as Japanese military headquarters during their occupation in Singapore. Rumors of this time period was that multiple Anti-Japanese coalition forces were taken to the factory, and executed there. The factory has been abandoned ever since. The spirits of the tortured souls here still remain in the factory, preserving the energies of their torturous deaths for all of eternity. Very depressing to read, isn’t it?
